What do you think about when you run?

While on a morning run this past week, my mind started wondering. Usually I think about my breathing, how much further I have to go, and my form. But I just couldn’t concentrate that morning. I started to think about work (which I try NOT to think about anytime I run), what I need to do later that day, and wondered what other runners think about when they run.

So I ask you (Yes YOU!), what do you think about when you run?

  1. ohh geez! ALL sorts of things! Ha, definitely get a lot of ideas out there while running! Think about blogging, future races, geez..the list goes on!

  2. Wes! I definitely have no real straight forward answer. School, my friends, relationships in my life, what I want to do on that run, where I want to run later that week, what my training plan is. These all occur in maybe the first 5-10 minutes of a run, and then I go blank. I really don’t think about anything when I get out there. Sure I’m monitoring the roads, is there a car coming? How am I feeling? Is my body holding up? Is the knee alright? How are the legs feeling tired?

So that’s what I think about. I run alone 9 times out of 10. I’m a very central person in my running. I don’t have too many people who will run with me or are willing to go as long as I am (I do know how to make the run looped and shorter for you! I say this often!) going that weekend. So my mind has gotten used to being alone with myself, it’s a meditation for me, a way to calm down and release some stress and pound rhythmically on the pavement.

  3. Lately it’s been “run on the balls of your feet dangit!” Lol. But otherwise, never really paid attention to what I think about on my run.
