10 marathons I want to run

I’ve been thinking about the  10 marathons that I would like to eventually run. The list has been stewing in my brain for awhile. But now it’s time to share it with the rest of the world! These are in no particular order.

  1. ING New York City Marathon – One of the largest marathons with lots of history. I’ve been trying for the last two years to gain entry into the race via the lottery with no success. Hopefully it’s in the cards for 2014!
  2. Boston Marathon – THE marathon everyone strives to run. I most likely will have to raise money for charity to run this, because I’m not that fast. Quite honestly, I would feel honored to raise money for a charity to run this marathon!
  3. Big Sur International Marathon – I saw an awesome picture of runners on the Bixby Bridge. I was sold! Plus friends tell me how much they love this marathon.
  4. Chicago Marathon – Another marathon that you have to run just once. I’ve only been to the airport, never actually in the city. It would be an AWESOME way to see the city!
  5. Marine Corps Marathon – Another marathon that my friends talk about. Plus it’s another city that I haven’t been to.
  6. Portland Marathon – I’ve ran the Rock N Roll Portland half marathon and loved running in this city. Plus I live only a few hours from Portland.
  7. LA Marathon – Earlier this year I attempted to run this marathon, but due to IT band issues I had to DNF. I WILL be back in 2014 to start AND finish this race. There will be a lot of emotion when I cross that finish line!
  8. Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon – I’ve run the half marathon a few years. It was actually my first race ever. But I need to run the full and I will be running it this December!
  9. California International Marathon – Every year I think about doing this race. But it never makes it onto my schedule. I’ve looked at the course map many, many times.
  10. Eugene Marathon – I’ve been eyeing this one since I started running. Great running town! You get to finish on Hayward Field. How awesome is that?!

What are your top 10 marathons?

  1. A couple of the marathons that are on your list are on mine too. I’d love to do the NY Marathon as well as Boston and Chicago. My coach did the LA Marathon one year and he said it’s great! I’d love to do it. I did the SLC 1/2 Marathon this year, and I loved the course. I’m thinking of signing up for the full next year.

    • You should definitely do the LA Marathon one day!

      I’ll be writing a half marathon top 10 post one of these days. Maybe the SLC 1/2 will make it onto it :)

  2. You have to run the Blue Ridge Marathon, it’s out of this world tough and beautiful at the same time. You should read my blog about it. You would have to add it to your list, making it a Top 11. I would love to run Portland and Seattle, too. Love both cities.

  3. 5 of these are on my newly formed running bucket list. NY, Boston, MCM, Portland & Chicago.

  4. Great list! I’d love to run an international race as well! Berlin sounds awesome!

  5. My 10 not in any particular order …
    1-Big Sur (ran in 2013)
    2 – NYC Marathon
    3 – Chicago Marathon
    4 – Boston Marathon
    5 – Disney Marathon
    6 – Athens Marathon
    7 – Great Wall Marathon in China
    8 – SF Marathon (ran 2010, 11, 12, & 13)
    9 – Mountains to Beach (formerly named Ojai to Ocean) Marathon
    10 – London Marathon

  6. I’ve done CIM and Eugene, and both are EXCELLENT. I also consider SFM a must-do, and Disney :D.

    My top 10:
    1. Big Sur (penciled in for 2015)
    2. Paris
    3. NYC
    4. LA
    5. MCM
    6. Portland
    7. Amsterdam
    8. Tahoe Triple
    9. Kauai
    10. Napa Valley

    • Everyone seems to have so much fun at Disney races! I will have to run one day :)

      You have a great top 10 list! I think I might be doing Big Sur in 2015 too.

  7. Some of mine, in no particular order:
    * Honolulu
    * New Orleans
    * Boston
    * Midnight Sun
    * New York ING
    * Dublin
    * Las Vegas

    I have signed up for two of my dream races: Disneyland Half (September 1) and Disney Princess Half (February 2014), which is completely amazing…but I have ALS, so the reality is that marathons may be a thing of my past very soon. But I’m still going as far as my little nerves will allow!

    • I want to do the Midnight Sun marathon too! That would be AMAZING!

      I only hear great things about Disney races – lots of fun and great support! You’ll do great!! :)

  8. Great list.

    I am doing CIM in December and have qualified for Boston next year. Hoping to qualify for New York for next year too.

    I would like to run London and Fukuoka as well.
